Case Study: Waterproofing a Flooded Basement in Augusta, GA

A sump pump with wires sits in a basement corner on a concrete floor near a white wall.

In Augusta, GA, homeowners in a 1940-built home faced basement flooding up to four times a year, with more than 30 gallons of water entering the space during heavy rains. Over the years, this recurring issue led to rotting wood, peeling paint, and unusable living space.

Mount Valley Foundation Services stepped in with a full waterproofing solution. With a new interior drainage system, sump pump, and hydrostatic pressure relief, the basement was transformed into a dry, safe, and protected space.

The Challenge

  • Basement flooding during heavy rain—up to four times per year
  • Over 30 gallons of water entering through walls and doorways
  • Wall damage, rotting wood, and risk of mold and structural issues

The Solution

  • BasementGutter™ interior drainage system installed around the perimeter
  • New sump pump with battery backup
  • Weep holes drilled to relieve hydrostatic pressure

The Impact

  • Basement stayed dry after storms, eliminating standing water
  • Water-damaged surfaces protected from future exposure
  • Homeowners gained peace of mind and usable space

Flooding After Every Rain

The homeowners had lived in their 80-year-old home for nearly three decades and had grown used to water entering the basement multiple times a year. Rainstorms would overwhelm the space, with water entering through an old kitchen doorway and up from the ground, causing damage as seen in the photo.

Long-Term Water Damage

Years of flooding had left behind rotting wood (seen in the picture), peeling paint, and water-soaked walls. The basement had become an unusable part of the home and raised concerns about mold, health risks, and long-term structural damage.

Fast, Effective Installation

The crew completed the work in just three days, installing the drainage system to intercept water at the floor and wall joints while maintaining a clean, unobtrusive appearance. The weep holes allowed water trapped inside block walls to escape, reducing hydrostatic pressure.

Long-Term Protection Secured

With the new sump system in place—complete with a battery backup—the basement is now protected even during power outages. The entire system works together to ensure the space remains dry, clean, and functional, no matter the weather.

We had the best onsite crew (Joe, Chris and Jauan) I have ever dealt with. They were courteous, knowledgeable efficient and left the property as clean as they found it. Their work looks great and I tend to believe Mount Valley will stand behind it if we have any problems in the future. If Mount Valley is as good as their workers proved to be we will be extremely satisfied….Thanks

We have had two jobs done by Mount Valley on two homes. Josh Craig crew did a good job and tried to save my original hardwood flooring. To be honest though, we live in far WNC and after calling 10 companies…all led to Mount Valley, so there's no competition other than locals who are either crummy or 6 months out if they are reliable and worthwhile. So, although I rate them overpriced, I guess they may be reasonably priced given our situation.
