This water can come from various sources, from surface runoff and flooding to condensation and interior pipe leaks. It can also be harmful, so you must get it out of the crawl space right away and ensure it never comes back.
In this article, we address who to call for water in the crawl space. You might feel overwhelmed by options, but we break the process down so it’s simple to handle. Let’s jump right in.
When standing water is in your crawl space, professionals can help in various ways. Here’s who to call in different circumstances:
Plumber: A good first contact is a trusted local plumber. They can inspect the crawl space for plumbing leaks and implement pipe repairs. They may also recommend additional professionals for other necessary repairs included on this list.
Water Damage and Cleanup Expert: When dealing with significant water damage, these experts examine the crawl space, extract water, clean, sanitize, and remove any contaminated items. This prevents issues like wood rot, structural problems, musty odors, and mold growth.
Mold Remediation Specialist: If crawl space mold is present, it’s essential to remove it to avoid health issues like asthma, allergies, and other respiratory problems and severe conditions due to airborne mold spores. Certified professionals have the proper protective gear and methods to ensure safe and effective removal.
Waterproofing and Encapsulation Pro: Once crawl space water is gone, ensuring it never returns is essential. Crawl space waterproofing and encapsulation experts—like Groundworks—install customized solutions, including interior drains, a sump pump, a vapor barrier, and a dehumidifier to keep moisture out of your crawl space for good.
How you handle home repair is entirely up to you. However, it’s essential to consider the condition of your crawl space before venturing inside. Weigh these factors:
You need a way to access the crawl space.
It might be a confined space with limited light.
You need proper equipment and must ensure it fits into this space.
You risk exposure to mold, pests, sewage, and other hazards.
Contact between wires and water in the crawl space can lead to electrocution.
Many DIY repairs are temporary.

Experience working in various crawl space conditions
Proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and safety protocols
The right tools and equipment
Customized, lasting repair solutions

We care about your health and safety, and encourage you to avoid DIY crawl space projects.

I recently had the privilege of having my basement crawlspace encapsulated (3-layer protection) by Groundworks and I am beyond thrilled with the results. The project included the installation of a sum pump, 75 feet of drainage line, drainage mat, insulation, and heavy-duty plastic, and after just a couple of days, the improvements have been remarkable.
In the past, my basement was plagued by a stagnant pond-like odor, a constant temperature of 59 degrees, and uncomfortably high humidity. Now, thanks to the encapsulation, the odor is completely gone, the humidity has been cut in half, and even without the subfloor installed, the temperature has noticeably risen. It’s incredible how much of a difference the encapsulation has made already.
I first encountered Groundworks at the Home Show in Denver, where their display of encapsulation systems stood out as the best of the show. Their products were clearly superior to the competitors, both in quality and appearance. After receiving multiple bids, all of which were similarly priced, we ultimately chose Groundworks—especially after seeing how they provided honest, straightforward information without using scare tactics to upsell additional products.
What truly set this experience apart, however, was the exceptional leadership and professionalism of the job foreman, Guillermo Hernandez. From start to finish, Guillermo and his team exceeded my expectations. Guillermo was not only professional and knowledgeable but also incredibly attentive throughout the entire process. He kept us fully informed at all times, conducting daily walkthroughs to show us the progress and outline the plan for the following day. His communication and dedication to the project were top-notch.
Guillermo’s crew—Memo, Lazaro, Ulises, and Diego—were equally impressive. They were all punctual, respectful, and hard-working, giving their best to every aspect of the job. Their attention to detail and insistence on perfection were evident, and their commitment to delivering quality results was remarkable. It was some of the most intense labor I’ve ever witnessed, and I’m grateful for their hard work.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with the job done by Groundworks. The encapsulation has already made a huge difference in my basement’s environment, and I would highly recommend their services to anyone in need of this type of work. A special thank you to Guillermo and his crew for their professionalism, hard work, and dedication to excellence.

Just had Marshall Boyles inspect my sump pump that the company installed in my home in 2021. I would like to commend Marshall for his terrific work ethic. He is the first employee that really answered my questions in a clear and concise manner. He tightened wall anchors with care managing not to scratch my recently painted game room. He took time to clean the outside of the pump area. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you Marshall for a job well done!
