Waterproofing your basement is key to having a healthy environment in your home, as well as preventing problems in the future. Learn more about the benefits of waterproofing your basement.
Understanding Basement Waterproofing
Preventing water and moisture intrusion is critical to avoiding foundation damage, making basement waterproofing a vital solution. Waterproofing your basement involves sealing cracks, installing interior drainage systems, and applying a vapor barrier to walls and floors.
These methods ensure a waterproof basement and help prevent future wet basement repair. Waterproofing basement walls from the inside protects your home from long-term moisture, mold, and structural damage, potentially enhancing overall property value.
Groundworks provides professional, long-term basement waterproofing solutions to keep your home safe and dry.
Signs You Need Basement Waterproofing
The following signs may indicate the need for basement waterproofing. Addressing these issues promptly helps prevent significant damage and costly repairs later on.
Footing drains channel water away from the basement, but if they become clogged, water can collect inside. Clogged footing drains may cause basement water accumulation.
Heavy Rain
Heavy rain and flooding can overwhelm drainage systems, making them ineffective. Waterproofing your basement helps prevent damage caused by these weather conditions.
Soil Settlement
Soil washout and erosion lead to uneven, cracked foundations caused by water seepage. Waterproofing basement walls from the inside and installing a sump pump can help prevent soil-related foundation issues.
Hydrostatic Pressure
Saturated soil pressurizes the foundation, leading to hydrostatic pressure, bowing walls, and a leaky basement. Addressing the effects of hydrostatic pressure using wall anchor systems and basement waterproofing methods provides a comprehensive solution for your home.
A sump pump is essential for removing excess water. This component pumps water toward the drainage system and away from the foundation, making it critical for waterproofing a basement.
Moisture and condensation may linger after the water removal, making a basement dehumidifier essential. Dehumidifiers help eliminate this moisture and prevent basement humidity. Pairing a dehumidifier with other basement waterproofing measures keeps your basement dry.
Water accumulation around the perimeter of a basement requires an interior drainage system for effective removal. This system helps to prevent wet walls and channels water away by creating a drainage pathway. Interior drainage systems are part of a comprehensive basement waterproofing solution that ensures water management and prevents infiltration.
Egress windows are typically required for code compliance in case of an emergency. Including egress windows in your waterproofing plan helps keep your basement dry and ensures compliance with safety regulations, reducing risks and enhancing overall security.

This section of my house was over a 100 years old and had sunk a couple inches. I was so incredibly nervous about having the helictical piers installed and the house lifted. My salesperson and the ground crew kept reassuring me that they knew what they were doing and they would do their best. I am so happy with the outcome! They went above and beyond to treat my home with respect. Many thanks

I have had the best experience with the people who represent Alpha Foundation! From the day Efrain Borrero came out to find out what was going on with my home's foundation to Steven, Brandon, and Chris coming out and performing the work needed to fix the problem. All of these people I encountered were polite, walked me through everything from what was happening to what was needed to be done to how the job would be done! Steven showed me a diagram of what my home would look like when they finished the job and I notice one corner of the home would be left without piers. I asked questions, he answered my questions/concerns with much detail! I asked if I had to wait to add the additional piers and long story short he made it happen while they were already on site which spoke volume of how the company value their customers. To Efrain, Steven , Brandon and Chris, thanks for walking me, a female homeowner through this intimidating process feeling at ease!!

Groundworks Field Inspector Mike Gold was excellent in communicating with
us the results of his work/measurements on our property. He explained that we now have a baseline for comparison in future years re: our house's foundation settling. He also informed us about the effect of moisture content of soil below the foundation and how to mitigate the potential problem. He is indeed knowledgeable in his area of expertise and has excellent communication skills!

The front wall of my basement was developing cracks and starting to bulge in the middle so I called Groundworks based on reviews I had read. Erik E. came to the house and gave me a rundown on what my options were and what to expect from the company. He was very informative and personable and I signed up to have the work done. Before the team showed up to work, I was given clear expectations from Groundworks as to what I needed to have completed so the team could work efficiently. When the first day of the three-day job came the work team (Mike K., Harry M., and Josh G.) inspected the job site and went right to work. At the end of each day, Mike called me and told me what had been accomplished and what was coming up the next day. Looking at the end results, the team worked well and everything was done on time. I highly recommend Groundworks and the people they have doing the work! I feel much better knowing the structure of the basement is sound and dry!

I recently had French drains installed on my property to address drainage and water‑pooling issues, and I wanted to provide a clear assessment of the work. Overall, the project was handled with solid workmanship and attention to the details that matter for long‑term performance.
Michael did the initial inspection and recommendations. Roger and his crew (Juan, Mikey, Erik) began by identifying the proper drainage path and ensuring the trench had a consistent slope so water would naturally flow away from the house. The trenches were dug cleanly and to the correct depth, and a proper gravel base was laid before the perforated pipe was installed. The pipe was positioned with the perforations facing downward, which is the correct orientation for capturing groundwater.
A high‑quality landscape fabric was used to wrap the pipe and gravel, preventing soil intrusion while still allowing water to pass through. This is a step that many installers skip, so I appreciated that it was done correctly. After backfilling, the surface was graded to ensure water would not pool above the system.
Summary:
The French drain installation appears professionally executed, with proper slope, correct pipe placement, clean trenching, and thoughtful finishing work. Based on the results so far, the system should provide reliable drainage and long‑term protection against water buildup.
