150-linear-foot Drainage Channel developed Voids

A 150-linear-foot section of the drainage channel had developed voids beneath the concrete panels, causing significant water flow beneath the panels instead of over them during rain events. This situation led to settlement in parts of the structure, further compromising its stability. The County sought a cost-effective solution to extend the life of the drainage system and avoid the high costs associated with a full rip-and-replacement project, looking for a more efficient method to address the underlying issues without disrupting the overall infrastructure.

The Solution

4-Foot grid of injections tubes placed.

Injection tubes were placed on a 4-foot grid along the bottom of the drainage structure and halfway up the side walls to address existing voids. This strategic placement ensured that both the lower and upper sections of the structure were effectively stabilized, improving the overall integrity of the drainage system. The targeted injections filled the voids and reinforced the structure, helping to prevent further erosion and settlement.
