The Challenge

Addressing foundation sinking and soil instability on a 30-foot hill.

This project, involving four separate residential properties, presented two key objectives: First, to lift the sinking structural foundations, which were likely caused by the homes sitting on the edge of a 30-foot hill. Second, to perform soil stabilization to prevent future damage to the foundations. The challenge was to address both the foundation issues and the surrounding soil instability through advanced piering and injection technologies, ensuring a long-term solution for the homeowners.

Throughout the project, the team encountered some unexpected challenges, including 5-foot footings, but with an experienced foreman and crew on-site, they were able to overcome these obstacles and complete the job with determination and precision.

The Solution

Hydraulic push piers, helical tiebacks, and high-density polymer injection.

Groundwork’s team of project managers and skilled crew members began by conducting a thorough assessment of the properties to determine the best course of action. The first step was the installation of hydraulic push piers, made from heavy-duty steel piping, which were driven into the ground to lift the homes back to level in a minimally invasive and efficient manner. Once the homes were lifted, helical tieback anchors were installed to prevent any lateral movement and provide additional stabilization. The final step involved injecting a high-density polyurethane foam, into the soil to stabilize the ground and prevent future shifting.

The Impact

Successful completion within 8 weeks, restoring foundation integrity

Groundworks began work on the project on July 2, 2018, and completed the repairs on August 30, 2018. The main goals of lifting the foundations and stabilizing the soil were achieved in a cost-effective and time-sensitive manner, with all work completed within an 8-week period. The foundation integrity of all four properties was fully restored, ensuring that the homes were secure and stable for years to come. The successful execution of this project demonstrated Groundworks’ expertise in foundation repair and soil stabilization, as well as their ability to overcome challenges with experience and skill.
