What is a House Foundation?

All strong construction starts with a sturdy, level foundation. The foundation of your home is the base upon which the structure sits. So in that respect, the foundation is one of the most essential elements of your property.

Without a durable foundation, the rest of the structure won’t be stable. Over time, walls will crack, windows and doors won’t open properly, and the value of your home will drop. When this happens, you need the professionals at Groundworks. We are the experts you can depend on to maintain your house foundation.

While foundations may have variations based on the size and style of the building, there are a few elements that are generally constant. Given the toughness and affordability of concrete, it is the most common material used for today’s foundations.

The foundation itself will consist of concrete footing installed below the frost line in the ground. Next, there is a foundation wall of either poured concrete or concrete masonry units. The concrete floor slab then makes up much of the foundation’s area. Reinforcing steel rods and anchor bolts are also typical features of home foundations.

Groundworks is here to answer any questions you may have about home foundations and foundation repair.
