The real measure of a company is not how they behave when all is well, but how they treat their customers when everything goes pear-shaped; and that's exactly what happened in our case. Sometimes you get a bad crew, a small group of ne'er do wells who simply don't perform. It happens. It happened to us. However once upper management found out what was going on they didn't hesitate to swoop in and make everything right, and that at a substantial cost to themselves. Concrete work is bloody expensive no matter the size of the job and, although we're just one small residential account, we were taken seriously and all repairs were done professionally and at our convenience. I can't praise these people enough for how they chose to behave when the chips were down, and I highly recommend them both for their skill and their commitment.

I was impressed with the systems but even more impressed with the way it was installed, the efforts to control the dust and the cleanup that occurred throughout the job. I would suggest you ask for this crew by name. I had the work quoted by others but there was no warranty included. I think the extra money spent was well worth the quality, warranty and included follow-up inspections. The lifting peer systems installed closed the cracks in the brick veneer on the length of 3 sides of the house as planned. I observed the installation of the wall braces and could see the immediate reduction in bowing of wall. Very happy with results.

Please see the earlier review (3/12) for context. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience with Mt. Valley Foundation Services regarding our sump pump installation. Overall, the team did an excellent job with both the initial installation and the subsequent repair of the discharge lines, which had come apart over time. They were professional, transparent, and truly seemed to care about the project. The only challenge I encountered was not with Mt. Valley Foundation Services itself, but rather with its parent company, Ground Works. From my experience, Ground Works has acquired many smaller foundation companies across the U.S., and it seems they may be struggling with logistical coordination. The call center they use is not very user-friendly, and I experienced multiple miscommunications and scheduling errors. Unfortunately, this puts Mt. Valley Foundation Services at the mercy of Ground Works' logistical issues. That said, I highly recommend working with Mt. Valley Foundation Services. My advice is to obtain the names and direct contact information of the service team when booking—this makes future communication significantly easier. Once I was able to reach the team directly, they went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. Living in a flood-prone area, I feel confident that the sump pump project they completed will be a tremendous benefit to our home and property. A big thanks to Danny (the manager) and his team for their outstanding work!

Wow. What can I say about this company. My father passed away recently and left us his house, which needs major foundation repairs. It’s all my Dad had left to leave his kids, and his grandkids. So with the life insurance he left, we decided the foundation needs repaired. Went online and found Groundworks. The first day I met with Matt Gumpert, for a free quote. He went over EVERYTHING in perfect detail. In the beginning, he made sure I understood everything about Groundworks and what they do. How they operate, and why he does what he does. He spent well over an hour in my crawl space making sure to note every detail along the way. He was in my dining room for quite a long time, going over options of what needs fixed and what we could afford, and honestly, he felt like a part of the family. He was totally professional, but also has a way about him of putting you totally at ease with a stranger. Never ever put any pressure on me at all, and didn’t use any scare tactics to push me into going with their company. At one point, our permit got rejected by an engineer and he spent all day sorting out the issue and really eased all of my concerns. He got it to a geotechnical engineer instead and there were no more issues. Unfortunately in the process of waiting for the city to approve permits, some unexpected financial issues hit us and we had to put the project on hold. I contacted Matt and he didn’t make me feel bad. He totally understood how hard things have been for us without my Dad around, and worked hard to get us most of our deposit back as well. Even though we did not get the project done, in the future when I have the funds, I will definitely be contacting Matt Gumpert at Groundworks again for all of my foundation needs. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with the project, or with my Dads legacy.

We had an older barn that flooded whith heavy rain or melting snow, creating a massive mess and making it unusable for our equine. We researched, read reviews and finally settled on Groundworks out of Traverse City. On the project, the team was timely, polite, and clearly knew what they were doing. They answered our questions and patiently explained everything. We had wood fencing along the barn and they were able to waterproof the foundation and dig French drains without moving it. They even took the time to spread the extra dirt out in our pasture! We want to give a huge shout out to Ethan Harvey, Jonah Hamilton, Richard Smith and Thomas Brown who worked so hard on our project. Really stellar guys and a joy to have on our property! Instead of dreading the next heavy rain, we now welcome it because we know our barn will stay dry!

I had Jamie Tobin come by for an appraisal of the work I was asking to be done. He was punctual despite the cold weather. Jamie explained the company history and current status with BBB. Then we went outside where I explained what I was in need of. Jamie then went to work with his tools and later asked me to come back outside so he could explain additional items I was not aware of. He explained well and proved his points with a laser light level. We went back inside where all the work was again explained to me and an estimate was provided on the spot. I decided it would be best to get fixed as soon as possible to avoid further changes or damages from occurring. It was a pleasant experience, and I would recommend Groundworks for anyone that is uncertain on how to proceed with uneven or not level concrete issues.

Called to have some cracks in my slab foundation looked at. Will Hedgecock came out and looked at it and explained that this is a common problem with the soils here. I had a lot of anxiety about doing significant work to the house as I have just retired in the last year and still have a lot of decisions to make regarding if I will keep a residence here. Will was very understanding about my anxiety and gave me all of the options so I can relax and take the time I need to think through my overall situation thoroughly and make the best decision going forward. Will is not only an expert in the technical aspects of foundation issues but is very understanding. Will has returned every call and answered every question promptly. Any questions or concerns I brought up were addressed immediately or at the appropriate time. They also fulfilled any promises/commitments they made, and their work was done to my satisfaction. They demonstrated experience and expertise with their work which was important to me concerning the cost and what was involved. While the final outcome fell short of what I hoped would be accomplished (I wanted more lift on the back of the house), it was not because of their efforts or lack of trying. I was pleased how professional and courteous the staff of Groundworks. It was a very easy process when we made our appointment to have someone come out to look at our crawl space to the last day of completion. The project took a week and when they come to work and if something comes up they’ll work around your schedule. I wish I knew about them a long time ago. They do have financing so you don’t have to worry about how to pay for it. Also they gave us warranty and it’s transferable. Plus they come out every year to check on their work.
