History
In 2005, Steven and Kelly Egloff founded Bay Area Underpinning with the goal of providing a cost-effective, engineered solution to foundation settlement problems with an emphasis on educating customers. In 2023, BAU partnered with Groundworks, the nation’s leading and fastest growing foundation repair and water management solutions provider, to offer the best products in the industry and provide elite business management resources to their employees. BAU will now operate under the Groundworks name, while continuing to improve the customer experience and provide expertise and guidance from San Jose to Sacramento.

The team was very professional and courteous. They cleaned everything up to perfection. If you need foundation work, this is the company. The cost was reasonable as well. Highly recommend!!! I will sleep much better tonight. I noticed a crack in my foundation and called Bay Area Underpinning. Hunter came out and walked the entire property and went underneath my house. He identified one other issue that I knew about besides the crack and told me they could fix that too. I had no idea you can call structural engineers for chimneys. His quote was fair to me and you can't beat the warranty and financing. Today Jesus Villagomes and Erick Baez came out and fixed the crack, they also looked around underneath and reassured me AGAIN that my house was in good shape. Because I caught it early they were able to fill the crack and then add a carbon fiber exposy seal. They also sealed the crack from the outside, even though they had already filled it in under the house. They were professional, answered all my questions, no matter how many and honestly were just pleasant to work with. They also explained my maintenance plan so I knew what to expect. I would absolutely recommend this entire team, to stay professionally kind in high heat is amazing. The Chimney job is pending and again, I'm ahead of the curve and not waiting for it to get worse.

We had Daniel come out to take a look at our foundation to see if there were any issues that needed to be fixed under our home (a second opinion). After our first inspection we were told there were numerous issues that needed to be fixed that surely would have cost us thousands. We were considering the Earthquake Brace and Bolt program so the first inspection was a recommended foundation company through the EBB program. Daniel came out and took his time measuring the house on the exterior and interior. He was super meticulous and took settling measurements and also went under our home and took photos of the foundation. He sat with us after and explained everything to us. Turns out our foundation is stable and not needing any work. Daniel was super professional and knows his trade very very well. He was very honest. I now have a company I would call back in a heart beat if I needed to have any foundational work done. I will also recommend them to any neighbors that need this kind of company. The estimate was free as well and Daniel also had no hesitation crawling under the house on a 101 degree day to check things out. 5 star company here. Do not hesitate and call them! -Nicole San Ramon

1. Call Center ***** – they took the call after 6:00 PM and were extremely professional. Guy on the phone (sorry I didn't write is name down), was so kind and emailed confirmation immediately. 2. Pre-Visit Confirmation ***** – Email, text and phone calls to confirm the time and prep me for the visit. Incredible. Nobody is doing this right these days and BAU absolutely has it nailed down. 3. Estimator ***** – I wish I could offer more than 5 stars. Joe Le Bel is the most professional tradesman I've met in a long time. Others are good too, but Joe is the gold standard. He sat with me to ask what I was concerned about and what was important to my family. Who does that???? Oh yeah, Joe did. So comforting. Joe was professional and respectful of our space. Was careful to be conscientious about where he placed his gear, tools and instruments. Super clean going under the house without tracking dirt and debris back into the house. (The inspectors from HomeGuard could definitely take notes on this!) Then, once Joe finished, he sat down with us and talked us through all the different aspects off his inspection. What an extremely positive interaction. I would 100% recommend BAU and Joe. Can't get any better than this. Thanks BAU for a great culture of excellence. We were told about moisture under our home so we decided to schedule a foundation inspection and our inspector was Chris Murray was incredible! Called to confirm the day before, and the morning of communicated his ETA. He came in and was extremely nice and professional. He explained everything he found afterwards and was honest about our solutions and cost. We have an extremely small crawl space so he was unable to book us for something within his company but he continued to look into other options for us. It is refreshing to have someone come out and be very truthful about our options!

The team I worked with at BAU was great. I hired them to repair some minor vertical and horizontal foundation cracks that were found in a recent general home inspection. Everyone who came out was upbeat, professional, punctual, thorough, and highly detailed. Hunter came out first to check the entire foundation and give a free estimate. They then split the work up into two dates, and each crew was great. Michael and James came out first for the initial round, and then Alexander and Gabe came out to wrap up the last few areas. The guys were always on time, which is greatly appreciated. Both repair teams also did their own additional checks of the surrounding areas, also greatly appreciated. They were also able to provide before and after pictures, and were respectful of the property.

After careful inspection, their agent, Richard, told me the truth, which was that my crawlspace was fine, that I had no problem with moisture or settling. And then he took the time to show me why. He could have tried to sell me on doing a lot of work, but he didn't. This kind of honesty is impressive! Call Bay Area Underpinning to inspect your crawlspace. You can trust them. If they say it needs work, hire them to do it. I am almost sorry I couldn't!

We had a fantastic experience with Bay Area Underpinning, lifting our foundation four and a half inches of our old 1958 Napa house! After careful review of several contractors, we chose Bay Area Underpinning and so glad we did! The entire process was smooth from the sales engineer estimate to the completion of the job, the communication was outstanding all along from day to day and ourblift was a big job with a full week of labor intensive work. I especially want to thank Foreman Cody Summers, Co-Foreman Ken Hamlin, and Installer Nikolas Klein for their outstanding work and customer service! They are the best and ensured that I was happy with the progress and completely satisfied. I also want to thank Superintendent Kevin Gaeden for his outstanding communication! My wife and I are completely satisfied and happy with the outcome! It was a great choice with great value after the job was complete! We would hire Bay Area Underpinning all over again! He was very detail oriented and explain all the problem of my foundations. He also proposed multiple fix plan customized to my situation. He was very friendly as well. When we had our 1960s home underpinned, the consultant arrived on time to give us a quote. He gave us different options for work to be done and had solutions to cutting cost on things that weren't absolutely necessary. The work was done within a week. All of the workers were professional. Something that stood out the most was the way the workers communicated with each other. They weren't your typical construction crew in this sense. They were very kind to each other and supportive of each other, even when they were in a difficult situation. This isn't common in construction. As for the cost, it was what we had expected and we don't have any complaints. Our house is level now and doesn't feel like we're drunk walking in areas that were previously sagging. There's a reason Bay Area Underpinning is #1 in the area. Would recommend, even if they aren't the cheapest- they get the job done right.

We had pretty extensive movement in our foundation, and Brandon was knowledgeable and took the time to carefully explain all of our options and how each would look. He and his crew were communicative and professional. Our biggest fear was that our new kitchen granite counters would crack in the lifting, but Brandon and his crew were extremely mindful of the situation, taking extra care and nothing cracked.
