History
In 2005, Steven and Kelly Egloff founded Bay Area Underpinning with the goal of providing a cost-effective, engineered solution to foundation settlement problems with an emphasis on educating customers. In 2023, BAU partnered with Groundworks, the nation’s leading and fastest growing foundation repair and water management solutions provider, to offer the best products in the industry and provide elite business management resources to their employees. BAU will now operate under the Groundworks name, while continuing to improve the customer experience and provide expertise and guidance from San Jose to Sacramento.

Joe was professional, punctual, and thorough in his inspection, explaining everything he found in a way that was easy to understand. Thank you Bay Area Underpinning for saving the day! I was in a challenging and prolonged situation since going into contract with EagleLift for the stabilization/lift for my house. After a long permit process and continuously delayed start dates, I was informed that EagleLift had been acquired by Groundworks and I’d have to wait a few more month before any progress could happen. It was a deeply frustrating process but the EagleLift team was able to connect us with Bay Area Underpinning (another Groundworks company) who were able to take over and expedite the project. To my surprise, James T. from BAU reached out quickly and assigned a team to come to my house within a week! The team that ended up working on the house, specifically Ish, John and Abel were exceptional. They were diligent, knowledgable, friendly and deeply considerate. They are truly pros who knocked the project out in no time which was reassuring since I was nervous that this project was gonna stretch into the rainy season. My house feels so stable now (minimal cracks too) and the considerable slope is now practically nonexistent! Thanks a lot James T., Ish, John, Abel and the BAU team for taking really great care of us.

I recommend Bay Area Underpinning for an important reason: honesty. After careful inspection, their agent, Richard, told me the truth, which was that my crawlspace was fine, that I had no problem with moisture or settling. And then he took the time to show me why. He could have tried to sell me on doing a lot of work, but he didn't. This kind of honesty is impressive! Call Bay Area Underpinning to inspect your crawlspace. You can trust them. If they say it needs work, hire them to do it. I am almost sorry I couldn't!

We were told about moisture under our home so we decided to schedule a foundation inspection and our inspector was Chris Murray was incredible! Called to confirm the day before, and the morning of communicated his ETA. He came in and was extremely nice and professional. He explained everything he found afterwards and was honest about our solutions and cost. We have an extremely small crawl space so he was unable to book us for something within his company but he continued to look into other options for us. It is refreshing to have someone come out and be very truthful about our options!

We had Daniel come out to take a look at our foundation to see if there were any issues that needed to be fixed under our home (a second opinion). After our first inspection we were told there were numerous issues that needed to be fixed that surely would have cost us thousands. We were considering the Earthquake Brace and Bolt program so the first inspection was a recommended foundation company through the EBB program. Daniel came out and took his time measuring the house on the exterior and interior. He was super meticulous and took settling measurements and also went under our home and took photos of the foundation. He sat with us after and explained everything to us. Turns out our foundation is stable and not needing any work. Daniel was super professional and knows his trade very very well. He was very honest. I now have a company I would call back in a heart beat if I needed to have any foundational work done. I will also recommend them to any neighbors that need this kind of company. The estimate was free as well and Daniel also had no hesitation crawling under the house on a 101 degree day to check things out. 5 star company here. Do not hesitate and call them! -Nicole San Ramon

We have a long horizontal crack on one side of our external wall. Although I had serious concern there is a foundation issue, Micheal Silva from Bay Area Underpinning came in and did thorough inspection with detail measurements and drawing and concluded that we don't have a foundation issue with great honesty. He also further inspected from the crawspace entrance and the stucco to let me know what's the potential issue outside the foundation concern. His professionalism, diligence, honesty, patience and extra step to help in figuring out the problem are truly appreciated.

Within a few months of buying our first home, we noticed some troubling signs: bedroom doors swinging open or closed on their own, “bubbles” and creaks in sections of the newly renovated floors, and significant cracks splitting the concrete in our garage. Although two general inspectors assured us that our house was level, we reached out to Bay Area Underpinning (BAU) for a more detailed assessment—and we're so glad we did! Inspector Christopher Murray conducted a meticulous inspection with radar equipment. While technically our house was level, Christopher uncovered that our foundation was sinking by inches in multiple areas, explaining the issues we were experiencing. Though the news and associated repair cost were a bit daunting as new homeowners, Christopher’s knowledge, professionalism, and clear answers to all our questions reassured us that we were in good hands. With confidence, we decided to proceed with BAU for the repair. Fredy Mora and his crew did exceptional work with the demo of the old concrete slabs and the prep for lifting, working quickly and efficiently. Fredy’s positive attitude made the process smooth, and his team was thorough and dedicated from start to finish. A special thank you to our lift project manager, Kevin Gaeden. Kevin was an outstanding communicator, keeping us fully informed and addressing every question promptly. His attentiveness made a huge difference throughout the project, and we felt reassured every step of the way. Esteban Ibarra, a crewmember on the lift team, also did superb work, handling the hands-on details with skill and care. Both Kevin and Esteban even went above and beyond, taking time to fix a jammed bedroom door that had shifted with the house lift. While foundation issues are never easy, we couldn’t have asked for a better team. We’re incredibly grateful to Bay Area Underpinning for their expertise, professionalism, and exceptional service. Last week, my car cut off while exiting the highway in Dixon, and I was stranded in a dangerous spot. Fortunately, your employees who were driving a Bay Area Underpinning truck, Erick Baez, Jesus Vallegomez, and Wesley Almaza stopped to help. They worked hard to try and troubleshoot my car and even pushed it out of the street to a nearby gas station while I waited for AAA. Their professionalism, kindness, and respect were incredible.
