Why your neighbors trust Tar Heel Basement Systems

We've earned 1,274 five star reviews.

"We contacted Tarheel Basement Systems because, despite the fact that our home in Stokesdale was only 2 years old, it had a musty smell and shockingly we were beginning to see some mold spots on and around vents and in closets, including clothes. They sent out a representative (Harlan) promptly, on a Saturday, who inspected the crawl space, took readings of humidity in the wood and the insulation and overall air, took schematics of the crawl space, and plenty of pictures. He discussed the cost and options with us, taking his time, including financing options. He was extremely thorough, and we agreed on the scope of the work and cost. They initiated the project, with Jacob C and Terrence A arriving at our home early in the morning. Jacob and Terrence were extremely courteous and professional, dropped off some initial documentation, and got to work. I did not have to be home but was able to work from home for the duration of their visit and I can tell you that they worked hard for two days beginning early in the day until late afternoon. Other than leaving for home after Day 1, they did not leave the site and took minimal break time during the entire duration of their stay. Peeking out from time-to-time they took their time cutting the materials to size, and when the project was over recapped with me what they had done. My wife and I are extremely appreciative of Jacob C, Terrence A, Harlan, and the entire team at Tar Heel Basement Systems and would not hesitate to enlist them again!"

Common Causes of your Crawl Space Problems in Mocksville

Experiencing issues with your crawl space in Mocksville? You might wonder why homes here face these challenges. In this region, the interplay between soil and moisture significantly affects crawl spaces. The area's soil types, which can vary from clay-rich in some neighborhoods to sandy in others, expand and contract with moisture fluctuations. Such changes, coupled with humid summers, create conditions that can lead to the shifting and settling of foundations. Homes in this area often encounter problems as persistent moisture seeps into crawl spaces, exacerbating issues by promoting wood rot, mold growth, and pest infestations.

Crawl spaces under your home endure stress due to these environmental factors. Moisture absorption by the soil can cause it to expand, leading to the upheaval or cracking of foundational elements. Groundwater levels, particularly during rainy seasons, can lead to pooling water, creating additional pressure on crawl space walls. Signs like uneven floors, musty odors, and cold floors often indicate underlying issues. Early identification can prevent severe structural damage, save on costly repairs, and maintain your home's integrity. Regular inspection helps address problems before they escalate, protecting both your foundation and your peace of mind.

FAQs

Factors that can influence the cost of crawl space repair in Mocksville include the extent of the damage, the size of the crawl space, materials needed, labor costs, and the specific repairs or improvements required, such as waterproofing or insulation. Additional features, like sump pumps or dehumidifiers, may also impact the overall cost.

To fix a leaking or wet crawl space, begin by identifying and repairing any water entry points, such as cracks or gaps in the foundation. Improve drainage by ensuring gutters and downspouts direct water away from the foundation and consider installing a sump pump or drainage system. Additionally, a vapor barrier can be added to the crawl space floor to help control moisture levels.

While it is possible to inspect your crawl space yourself, safety precautions are necessary. Ensure the area is well-ventilated and wear protective clothing, including gloves, a mask, and a helmet. Be mindful of hazards such as mold, pests, or structural issues, and consider consulting a professional if you're unsure or uncomfortable.

During a crawl space inspection, you can expect a thorough examination of the area to identify any issues like moisture intrusion, mold growth, pest infestations, or structural damage. The inspector will assess the condition of insulation, vapor barriers, and ventilation systems. A detailed report with recommendations for repairs or improvements is typically provided afterward.

The longevity of crawl space repairs depends on the quality of materials used and the expertise of the professionals who perform the work. Properly executed repairs can last for several years, but regular maintenance and periodic inspections are recommended to ensure the lasting integrity of the crawl space system.
