"In early 2025, I watched the series of videos put out by Mike Rowe on his Youtube channel where he accompanied a Groundworks team on a jobsite and then interviewed Matt Malone, Groundworks' founder. Those videos encouraged me to put Groundworks on my contact list because I knew we would eventually contract them to help us with water and foundation issues for our raised foundation home in southern California. I first met with DALTEN in December 2025 to discuss our areas of concern and receive his inspection. He spent literally hours thoroughly measuring and documenting our home's underbelly before coming to the table to meet with me over his tablet device on which he recorded all the information we needed to make an informed decision in the approach to repairs. Their balanced use of technology and face-to-face discussion was exactly what was needed to effectively communicate with us about the whole process. We signed on that evening to schedule the work. I scheduled with them to start in January 2026. The Groundworks system emailed and texted with me to keep me updated on time of arrival and what to expect throughout the project. On the first day, ROGER, JUAN, and JORGE came to our property right on time and were ready to go within minutes, fully suited up for their mission under our house. Roger projected 4 or 4.5 days for the job completion and he stuck to that; they began Monday and ended Thursday. Dalten and Roger worked to ensure our plan was both achievable and met the engineer's specifications with respect to the leveling beam installation. A modification was made on the fly to rework some of our trenching and the change was easily conducted electronically between the team and me. Roger discussed everything at the end with me over the phone since I was away. He also sent me photos of the finished product. After talking to Jorge, I decided to go under the house with him and Juan for a brief period so he could show me where future electrical would be needed to properly connect the pumps they installed. They were courteous to show me how to safely get into the crawl space and then how to exit. Finally, the guys went above and beyond by informing me about a leak point coming from one of our bathrooms and made recommendations for services outside the scope of their work based on what would be best for us. I cannot praise the Groundworks team enough, a really solid bunch of people who are doing home repair the right way. Thank you guys!"

Common Causes of your Driveway Problems in Irvine

Are you finding cracks or uneven surfaces on your driveway? This is an issue many homeowners face, especially in regions like yours where soil conditions and climate contribute to such problems. In and around Irvine, the unique interplay of moisture and soil types can make driveways susceptible to damage. The clay-rich soils in some local areas can expand and contract with seasonal moisture changes, leading to surface movement and cracks. In other neighborhoods, sandy soils might shift under the load of vehicles, causing sinking or uneven surfaces. Both scenarios can lead to visible wear on your driveway over time.

These underlying conditions stress the integrity of your driveway, leading to structural issues that may start with small cracks and escalate to more significant damage if left unaddressed. It's common for driveway surfaces to become uneven or for edges to crumble, which can be both a safety hazard and an eyesore. Early recognition of these signs is key. Addressing issues promptly can prevent further deterioration and help maintain the safety and aesthetics of your property. Observing changes in your driveway's surface and seeking solutions early can save considerable expense and inconvenience in the long run.

FAQs

The total cost of driveway repair or replacement can be influenced by several factors, including the size and condition of the driveway, the type of materials used, labor costs, the complexity of the repair or installation, and any additional features like seals or finishes. Local market conditions in your area can also play a role in determining costs.

Yes, you can repair minor cracks and damages in your driveway with store-bought concrete or patch kits. However, for major damages or for long-term solutions, it's often best to consult with a professional to ensure the repairs are durable and effectively managed.

Determining whether your driveway needs repair or replacement depends on the extent and type of damage. Small cracks and minor depressions may only need repairs, while significant structural damage, large potholes, or extensive surface deterioration often necessitate a full replacement. A professional evaluation can help make this determination.

To get a professional driveway evaluation in Irvine, the first step is usually to contact a local driveway repair specialist or contractor. They can arrange a site visit to assess the condition of your driveway and provide recommendations for repair, resurfacing, or replacement options.

Resurfacing involves applying a new surface layer over the existing driveway to repair minor cracks and surface issues. Lifting, also known as mudjacking, is used to raise and level sunken sections of a driveway. Replacing involves removing the old driveway and installing a new one from scratch, typically recommended for severe damage or when a complete overhaul is desired.
