"In early 2025, I watched the series of videos put out by Mike Rowe on his Youtube channel where he accompanied a Groundworks team on a jobsite and then interviewed Matt Malone, Groundworks' founder. Those videos encouraged me to put Groundworks on my contact list because I knew we would eventually contract them to help us with water and foundation issues for our raised foundation home in southern California. I first met with DALTEN in December 2025 to discuss our areas of concern and receive his inspection. He spent literally hours thoroughly measuring and documenting our home's underbelly before coming to the table to meet with me over his tablet device on which he recorded all the information we needed to make an informed decision in the approach to repairs. Their balanced use of technology and face-to-face discussion was exactly what was needed to effectively communicate with us about the whole process. We signed on that evening to schedule the work. I scheduled with them to start in January 2026. The Groundworks system emailed and texted with me to keep me updated on time of arrival and what to expect throughout the project. On the first day, ROGER, JUAN, and JORGE came to our property right on time and were ready to go within minutes, fully suited up for their mission under our house. Roger projected 4 or 4.5 days for the job completion and he stuck to that; they began Monday and ended Thursday. Dalten and Roger worked to ensure our plan was both achievable and met the engineer's specifications with respect to the leveling beam installation. A modification was made on the fly to rework some of our trenching and the change was easily conducted electronically between the team and me. Roger discussed everything at the end with me over the phone since I was away. He also sent me photos of the finished product. After talking to Jorge, I decided to go under the house with him and Juan for a brief period so he could show me where future electrical would be needed to properly connect the pumps they installed. They were courteous to show me how to safely get into the crawl space and then how to exit. Finally, the guys went above and beyond by informing me about a leak point coming from one of our bathrooms and made recommendations for services outside the scope of their work based on what would be best for us. I cannot praise the Groundworks team enough, a really solid bunch of people who are doing home repair the right way. Thank you guys!"
Common Causes of your Driveway Problems in La Mirada
Cracks and uneven surfaces on your driveway may leave you wondering why such issues develop over time. In La Mirada, one significant factor is the behavior of local soil, which can experience expansion and contraction due to seasonal moisture changes. During wetter periods, the soil absorbs moisture, causing it to swell, and during drier times, it contracts. This phenomenon can lead to shifting and settling of the underlying ground, which negatively impacts driveways. In some areas, poor drainage or local landscaping choices exacerbate these natural processes, increasing the likelihood of driveway problems.
These environmental influences can stress driveways, leading to more visible issues like cracks, sinking areas, and even the formation of depressions or potholes. Early detection of these problems can help prevent more severe damage. Regularly inspect your driveway for pooling water or small cracks, as they can indicate underlying issues. By addressing these signs early on, you can maintain your driveway's integrity and avoid further complications. Understanding how local conditions affect your driveway helps in taking preventive steps and maintaining the longevity of your home's entrances and outdoor spaces.
Driveway Repair Solutions We Provide For You in La Mirada
The total cost of driveway repair or replacement is influenced by factors such as the size and extent of the damage, the type of material used (concrete, asphalt, or gravel), the accessibility of the site, labor costs, and any additional features or customizations you choose to include. Local economic conditions and the need for specialized equipment or permits also play a role in the overall cost.
Hiring a professional for driveway repair ensures the job is done correctly and safely, leveraging their expertise, experience, and access to the right equipment. Professionals can properly diagnose and solve issues, preventing costly mistakes and ensuring long-term durability. They also adhere to local building codes and offer valuable warranties or guarantees on their work, providing peace of mind.
Driveway sinking near the garage or front steps is typically due to soil erosion, poor compaction, or drainage issues. Water accumulation or heavy loads over unsuitable soil can lead to settling or shifting ground underneath the driveway. Addressing the underlying cause is essential to prevent further damage.
Freeze-thaw cycles in La Mirada can lead to the expansion and contraction of moisture within the materials of a driveway. This process can cause cracks, potholes, or deterioration in both concrete and asphalt surfaces. Although La Mirada has a milder climate, occasional temperature fluctuations can still impact driveway conditions over time.
Lifting or leveling a sunken concrete driveway is commonly done through a process called mudjacking or slabjacking. This involves drilling small holes in the concrete and injecting a mixture of water, soil, sand, and cement beneath the slab to raise it to the desired level. Alternatively, polyurethane foam can be injected for a quicker solution. Both methods require professional expertise to ensure the driveway is properly leveled and stable.
