Why your neighbors trust JES Foundation Repair

We've earned 1,515 five star reviews.

"JES did an excellent job on our crawl space. We had water accumulating around the whole perimeter of the crawl space. We had also had a toilet leak causing black mold, which had been professionally cleaned up, but we wanted fresh insulation. The JES team arrived on schedule and worked diligently to remove the insulation above and the flimsy plastic that covered the earthen floor of the crawl space. They then laid rubber matting and white membrane over the dirt and put thick styrofoam on the walls. They dug a trench around the perimeter and installed 2 sump pumps and 2 dehumidifiers to deal with future water. Meanwhile a separate team arrived to put foam under our patio to stop it from sliding away from the house. Everyone called before they arrived and each member of this large team was always professional and answered all questions thoroughly. They cleaned up well each day which I thoroughly appreciate. I want to add that Brian Swain was an amazing leader and manager of his 5 to 7 man crawl space team. He kept the project on schedule, kept me informed about progress and what would happen when, and always made himself available to answer questions. Thank you, Brian! Bryan Rutherford did a great job putting foam under the patio and sealing where it meets the house. The crawl space team, Gio Ordonez, Mohamed Kamara, and Pedro Llontop worked hard each day and were always professional. Superintendent Demetrius Cooper came by to ensure everything was going well and he answered additional questions and made great recommendations. Overall the whole crew was excellent. I highly recommend this team, their dedication to doing the work well and their professionalism."

Common Causes of your Basement Problems in Bethesda

Ever wondered why basements in this area sometimes face water issues? It often comes down to how local weather patterns and soil types interact. Bethesda's climate, with its mix of wet seasons and varying temperatures, can lead to significant moisture fluctuations in the soil. This, combined with the natural clay content common in our region, means the ground around your home can expand and contract considerably. Such movements exert pressure on basement walls, a process known as soil heave, causing potential entry points for water to develop over time.

This shifting soil stress can lead to cracks in foundations and walls, allowing water to seep into basements. Many houses in Bethesda might also experience uneven floors or sticking doors as additional signs of foundational stress. Early detection of these issues, like noticing pooling water or musty odors, is crucial as it can prevent costly damage. Monitoring your basement for these warning signs and addressing any problems promptly helps safeguard the integrity of your home. Keeping your basement dry relies on understanding and mitigating these local environmental stresses.

FAQs

The long-term savings of waterproofing your basement include the prevention of costly water damage repairs, reduced risk of mold growth which can lead to health issues and the expense of remediation, and potential increased property value due to a well-maintained and dry living space.

You may need to waterproof your basement if you notice signs such as a damp or musty smell, visible water stains on walls or floors, peeling paint, mold or mildew growth, or if you have experienced past flooding or water seepage.

In Bethesda, clay-rich soils are prevalent, which can contribute to water seepage because these soils do not drain well and can expand and retain water, applying pressure against basement walls and floors.

To choose a reliable basement waterproofing contractor in Bethesda, conduct thorough research, read online reviews, check for proper licensing and insurance, ask for references, and obtain multiple quotes to compare services and pricing before making a decision.

The best basement waterproofing method often depends on the specific circumstances of your basement. Common methods include interior solutions like sealants, waterproof coatings, and drain systems, or exterior solutions like improving drainage or installing a membrane. Consulting with a professional can help determine the best approach for your situation.
